Lublin took the first place among the cities with district rights in the Poland's Healthcare Ranking drawn up by the daily newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna. It is an exceptional distinction given for medical potential in the city which is offered to Lublin residents. The award was received by Ms Monika Lipińska, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin for Social Issues. The formal awards ceremony took place on 18th February (Thursday) in the International Convention Centre in Katowice during the Health Challenges Congress.

Lublin, as a city with district rights, undertakes a number of actions which aim to improve health and enhance the quality of life of Lublin residents. The Authorities of the City allot PLN 1.5 million for health-promoting activities every year.

The activities focus especially on the health promotion and prevention, which is to create favourable conditions for promoting a healthy lifestyle, implementation of health programmes and health education designed to familiarise Lublin residents with factors detrimental for health and effects they bring about. Various actions taken by us to this end, conferences, campaigns, festivals, health promotion and prevention events enable us to increase the availability of given services and raise public awareness of the need to prevent and to look after one's own health. The activities are complementary to the health services provided under the National Health Fund and aim to expand the availability of other services funded from other public resources.

It is important that Lublin is the centre for education of healthcare professionals in region offering a great number of universities. The Medical University of Lublin is worth mentioning here because of the highly skilled university staff, which makes it possible not only to develop innovative branches of medicine but also to educate new specialists in this field – said Ms Monika Lipińska, Deputy Mayor of the City of Lublin for Social Issues during the Health Challenges Congress.

The second edition of the ranking drawn up by the daily newspaper Dziennik Gazeta Prawna singled out the most pro-health cities and cities with district rights in Poland. Its aim is to show Lublin residents the potential of the local government for providing health services. Lublin took the first place in its category and beat other Polish cities.
