Plans for green areas surrounding the Lublin Castle announced

The Authorities of Lublin received 15 works in the competition for the urban and architectural conception of the park located in green areas surrounding the Lublin Castle. The jury singled out the winner. The winning team comprises such names as Zuzanna Szpocińska (Warsaw), Aleksandra Boniecka (Radzynin), Tomasz Marciniewicz (Warsaw) and Michał Poziemski (Ząbki).

The aim of the competition was to develop comprehensive concept for green areas as open and friendly space for the residents but referring at the same time to the historic and cultural heritage. The competition was to provide information as to the possibilities for constructing buildings, forming urban space, show how to make use of the municipal areas and establish rules of forming the high greenery considering the close and distant panorama of the Old City and the Castle.

 

The renewed green areas and Podzamcze district will become the part of modernising of the urban space of the down town and the revitalisation of the valley of Bystrzyca river. We want to enhance the quality of the one of the most representative areas of the city and make it more attractive and friendly for the residents and visitors – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

 

The winning work was prepared by the team of the authors comprising Zuzanna Szpocińska (Warsaw), Aleksandra Boniecka (Radzynin), Tomasz Marciniewicz (Warsaw) and Michał Poziemski (Ząbki). According to the jury “the work has been chosen for its merits in ideological values which were conveyed by the concise form of communication. The work is compatible with the guidelines of the competition, takes into account the historical background of the area and offers the vision of the modern, cultural park referring to the historical conception of green areas. The urban conceptions retain the historical character of the place and add new values”.

Garden Concept Architekci Krajobrazu Wojciech Januszczyk Piotr Szkołut Sp. J. from Lublin took the second place for the conception of the park which is methodologically interesting, varied in respect of functionality and programme as well as for the architectural conceptions which fit the space.

The work prepared by the Foundation for Design Development LUCREATE from Lublin took the third place for the methodological values and interesting spatial and programme conceptions.

The awarded works will provide the basis for the development of the park located on green areas which will take place after the extensive, open discussion and consultations. The winners of the competition will be invited to take part in the negotiations concerning the signing of the agreement on the building project.

The executive design of green area land use should be ready on 9 May 2016.

The works were evaluated according to the following criteria:

1) the idea, the coherence of conception and the conciseness of form, the cultural identity of the place, context, connection with the urban layout of Lublin

2) the attractiveness, the novelty, the feasibility and the importance of the solutions introduced in the park in the context of the modernisation of the area

3) implementation of the urban and architectural guidelines, observing the land ownership status, programme proposals, the feasibility

 

The competition jury, which was created by the Mayor of the City of Lublin, singled out the winning work and consisted of the following members:

The competition works could be seen in the Crown Tribunal for two weeks from 6 November. Remarks and opinions of the residents were sent to the e-mail address blonia@lublin.eu. The open discussion with the representatives of the winning team and the Association of Polish Architects (Zuzanna Szpocińska, Aleksandra Boniecka, Tomasz Marciniewicz, Michał Poziemski) about green area near the Lublin Castle took place on Monday (23 November).
