Europe Day and Lublin's involvement in the competition for the European Capital of Culture 2029 title became an opportunity to conclude the Cultural Union of the Metropolitan Area. Yesterday (May 9), cities, municipalities and poviats of the Lublin Metropolitan Area, signed a declaration on mutual cultural cooperation. Moreover, a newly-established regional network shares a commitment to developing and promoting Lublin culture.

The aim of the Cultural Union of the Metropolitan Area is to launch a long lasting regional cultural partnership, to create a network of cities supporting culture, its nationwide and oversea promotion and to enhance a strategy of the culture development in Lublin region. Yet, if Lublin receives the title of European Capital of Culture, we will, in every respect, celebrate in 2029. The Union conducted within the Lublin Metropolitan Area, shall be committed to cooperate jointly and to trigger local government, artistic and non-governmental communities in the Lublin region.

The attempts to win the ECoC 2029 title spurred a recognised cooperation with cities, municipalities and poviats of the Lublin region. By concluding the Union, the City of Lublin wants to share the idea of the ECoC and to promote a common concept of urban partnership of eastern Poland, to be able to support it internationally during the endeavors and celebrations of the European Capital of Culture 2029. The established network of cultural cooperation will become a top priority factor of the ECoC 2029 agenda. Together with local partners, the City will plan outstanding events for all Lublin communities.

The Lublin Metropolitan Area Association is an organisation bringing together local government units, acting as an association of Integrated Territorial Investments, established by 26 partners. Its aim is to ensure sustainable, integrated and long-term development of cities, municipalities, counties in the Lublin Metropolitan Area and to strengthen partnership cooperation in the task management provided for in the EU financial perspective for 2021-2027.
