A great musical feast in Lublin is approaching fast. You will be able to hear the most interesting representatives of the Polish and world jazz scene for the 12th time in the Centre for Culture in Lublin. Lublin Jazz Festival will be held on July 12-18. Incredibly popular festival in Lublin did not take place last year due to the coronavirus pandemic. From the very beginning, the idea of ​​the festival has been to present the most interesting Polish and world music projects of the widely defined jazz – the most prominent representatives of contemporary jazz scene projects, through the mainstream to the improvised music, and young aspiring artists.

The 12th edition will refer to Leopold Tyrmand on the occasion of his 100th birthday celebrated in 2020. As part of the festival, you will be able to admire the unique exhibition "Jazz Tyrmanda" by Justyna Polakowska, presenting his relationship with jazz music. The exhibition will consist of photographs, book excerpts and interviews. It will be open from July 12 to 23 at the OKNA Gallery. This year, the festival will last seven days.

Concert as part of the series: Lublin premieres.

An original project refreshing the jazz code that left its mark in the traces of the Polish language. The effect of a musical look back is the album “Ali” released by the band this year.

July 13

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Meeting with Mikołaj Trzaska on the book “Wrzeszcz! Mikołaj Trzaska. Autobiography”. Led by Rafał Chwała.

Would-be painter, unbridled improviser, award-winning author of music for Wojciech Smarzowski’s films, a loving husband and father, a dyslexic erudite, a man constantly trying to find balance on the crazy roller coaster of life …

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Aleksandra Kutrzepa Quartet feat. Mikołaj Trzaska – No one knows where
Concert as part of the series: Lublin premieres

„No One Knows Where” is the third album of the Aleksander Kutrzepa Quartet. It contains 6 compositions by the leader of the group, recognized by Jazz Forum as one of the best Polish violinists.

July 14

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Mikroelementy – Connecting People | prapremiere
Concert as part of the series: Lublin premieres

An orchestra / collective set up to act in order to heal with the help of sound. The history of the line-up began with a charity concert in 2018. The band creates a musical organism based on a meditative trance, which is a common denominator for musicians from different sound worlds.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Concert of the finalists of the “JAZZiNSPIRACJE” competition

Concert of the finalists of the “JAZZiNSPIRACJE” competition, the aim of which is to promote valuable musical projects, musicians inspired by jazz in their work, and to enable them to release their debut album and music video.

July 16

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Piotr Damasiewicz Union feat. David Murray (PL/US) | World premiere

Piotr Damasiewicz with his line-up took on quite a challenge – the reinterpretation of Andrzej Trzaskowski’s album “Seant”, which is a determinant of what in contemporary music, not only jazz, is the essence. It is a combination of swing, harmony, melody and virtuosity with conceptual thinking, including composition, free individual expression, drive, but also a place to breathe and think.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Holden / Zimpel (UK/PL)

James Holden and Wacław Zimpel met in the summer of 2018, by improvising in the London studio of the first one. Loving musical hypnosis and trance, the duo will present an unexpected set based on improvised partch synthesizers of the alto clarinet with the colors of the modular authors. The trance, whose music oscillates around the duo, preserves the form of traditional folk, 20th-century minimalism, electronic dance music and improvised jazz. The concert will be audiovisual.

July 17

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Emil Miszk & The Sonic Syndicate (PL)

An octet composed of leading artists of the young generation in Poland, led by a trumpeter and composer associated with the Tri-City scene – Emil Miszk. Extremely rare nowadays an opportunity to hear a jazz band with such a wide and strong sounding brass section, supported by two harmonic instruments. The first album “Don’t Hesitate!” was awarded Fryderyk 2019 in the Jazz Debut of the Year category.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Billy Hart Quartet (US)

Born in Washington, DC, Billy Hart is a jazz drummer and educator who has performed with some of the most important jazz musicians in history.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Jam Session

After the evening concerts will, we invite everyone on jam session, a moment for free, collective, casual improvisation. The event will be hosted by special guests.

July 18

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Tomasz Dąbrowski & Istnienia Poszczególne (PL/DK)

A project dedicated to the memory of one of the most important musicians on the Polish and European jazz scene – Tomasz Stańko. Its main task is to honor his approach to jazz and improvised music, as well as his work with individualities.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | Piotr Baron Quintet – „Wodecki Jazz” (PL)

Piotr Baron showed great respect for Zbigniew Wodecki’s music and his unique compositions.

12. Lublin Jazz Festival | PRIM (AT) | the end of the festival

Prim represents the ambitious Viennese jazz scene. In their music, they mix simple and lyrical melodies, rock riffs with drum’n’bass pulsation, which in turn creates a high-quality musical narrative. The basis is jazz and classical virtuosity of playing the instruments.


Admission to all events from July 12-15 is free of charge. Tickets for the weekend concerts (July 16 to 18) are available in Centre for Culture and online.

The first edition of Lublin Jazz Festival was held in 2008.
