Photo competition 'European Heritage Label - Europe starts here!'
11.03.202109:01

The European Heritage Label (EHL) is a recognition awarded by the European Union to buildings, documents, museums, archives, monuments or events which are seen as milestones in the creation of today's Europe. The programme is managed by the European Commission. The purpose of the EHL is to emphasize and strengthen the feeling of belonging to the EU among all European citizens, especially young people. European Heritage Label encourages intercultural dialogue and creates a sense of being part of a united Europe. The label is awarded upon the recommendation by a board of independent experts.

The photo competition is one of the educational and promotional activities of the European project EHL@N - a cooperation network of cities and places of the European Heritage Label. The Competition Organiser is the EHL@N project consortium, represented by the project leader Burghauptmannschaft Österreich – Imperial Palace Vienna and the Association of the EHL Sites. The aim of the competition is to promote the fundamental EHL values founded on the principles of freedom, democracy, respect for human rights, cultural and linguistic diversity, tolerance and solidarity, which are represented by the European Heritage Label and the places honored with it. The theme of the competition will focus on EHL sites - events taking place there and all kinds of activities promoting the European heritage. The pictures need to be accompanied by a personal story in relation to the site and its related values.

The competition is open to the public - citizens of all countries can participate in the competition, respecting all formal and technical requirements. The contest is open to all interested novices and professional photographers. Participants will be qualified in two age categories: youth – below 30 (including 30) and adults – above 31. The works can be submitted between February, 15 – March,14 2021.
The pre-selected Jury photos (20 in each age category) will be presented to the wide audience, which in the process of public voting on the project’s website, will select the winners in both age categories. Together with the start of the photo competition, the website of EHL@N will be launched. The results will be announced on May 9, 2021 on the website and social media of the Competition Organiser and the websites of European institutions that are part of the Jury. The winners will receive a monetary prize value of 500 EUR.
