On March 5, 2021, a meeting of the members of the Lublin Medicine Cluster and the partner cluster from Latvia - Latvian Health Tourism Cluster took place, the aim of which was to intensify international cooperation in the field of medicine and health.

Health and medicine in an interdisciplinary connection with other sectors of the economy, with particular emphasis on the role of digital technologies, are one of the undisputed development priorities, especially during and after the pandemic. We need to accelerate the search for new solutions that will ensure better patient care and improve the quality of life for all of us - says Marzena Strok-Sadło, head of the Department of Economic Ecosystems and Business Infrastructure at the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship of the Lublin City Hall, member of the board of the Lublin Medicine Cluster.

The Lublin Medicine Cluster is an initiative coordinated by the Lublin municipality and the Medical University of Lublin, within which 160 entities from Lublin and the Lublin Province related to medicine and health cooperate. Both clusters include universities, public and private hospitals, private entities providing medical services, manufacturing companies and startups from this sector. This gives the opportunity to cooperate on many levels in almost every field of medicine.

Michał Szabelski, Deputy Director of Finance and Development of the Independent Public Clinical Hospital No. 4 sees in the cooperation with a Latvian partner opportunities in the field of exchanging experiences, good practices and implementing joint projects in the future, including cooperation with the Pauls Stradins Clinical University Hospital in Riga, which could translate into higher quality of services for patients.

Gunta Uspele, the manager of the Latvian Health Tourim Cluster and Izabela Witkowska, the head of the Internationalisation and Digitalisation Office of the Medical University of Lublin, are working on the programme of subsequent meetings of cluster members dedicated to innovative solutions in the field of telemedicine, diagnostics, and rehabilitation in individual fields of medicine. University scientists as well as entrepreneurs from Lublin will join the meetings. Prevention and health promotion, effective process management and the safety of patients will also be an important topic for the participants.

The Strategy and Entrepreneurship Department of the Lublin City Hall supports the development of the innovation ecosystem in our city. Therefore, startups that are working on the development of their products and services in Lublin have the opportunity to test these solutions in professional centers abroad (in this case in Latvia).

People, institutions and companies interested in cooperation with Latvia are invited to contact the office of the Lublin Medicine Cluster run by the Department of Strategy and Entrepreneurship of the City of Lublin by e-mail: info@medycyna.lublin.eu or by phone: +48 81 466 25 05.
