Location

Lublin is the largest city in Eastern Poland, and the capital of the Voivodship (province) of Lublin; it is the ‘Gateway of the European Union into the East’, the capital of Eastern Poland.

The city is located in Eastern Poland near the northern end of the Lublin Upland. The valley of the river Bystrzyca divides the city into two parts, different in terms of their landscape: the left bank, with its varied natural topography, deep valleys and old loess gorges, and the right bank which is part of the Świdnicki plateau. Historically, Lublin belongs to Lesser Poland and is the capital of the region of Lubelszczyzna. A great advantage of the city is its location close to the eastern boarder of the European Union.

Lublin stands as the preeminent academic, economic, and administrative hub on the eastern side of the Vistula River. The nearest border crossing with Ukraine, Dorohusk, is situated just under 100 kilometers away. Lublin is a mere 217 kilometers from Lviv, approximately a 3-hour drive, while the journey to Minsk, the capital of Belarus, covering a distance of 503 kilometers, takes around 6 hours. In the current geopolitical landscape, Lublin serves as an ambassador for Eastern affairs within the European Union and acts as a representative for EU matters in the East.

Important international transportation routes intersect here. Thanks to continually improved transportation infrastructure, convenient road and rail connections are established with central and southern Poland. The airport, opened in December 2012, provides quick access to key cities and transportation hubs in Europe. Currently, it operates flights to Warsaw, London, Dublin, and Bergamo.
