H.E. Gerard Keown, Ambassador of Ireland to the Republic of Poland paid a courtesy visit to Lublin on 14th December 2015. Plans of cooperation with prospective partners from Ireland were discussed during the meeting with Mr Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin. The growing links between Ireland and Lublin are part of a wider dynamic relationship between Poland and Ireland. One hundred and fifty thousand Poles are living in Ireland at present. Mr Ambassador delivered a lecture entitled „Ireland of the East and Poland of the West: Polish-Irish Connections Yesterday and Today” in the Department of Celtic Studies.

The Department of Celtic Studies is part of the English Institute at the John Paul II Catholic University of Lublin. The Department was established in 1989 and provides courses in Welsh and Irish language as well as in literature and culture of Celtic-speaking countries.
