Bearing in mind Lublin ngos', voivodship's and municipality's long experience in building a network of cooperation with Eastern European partners as well as their knowledge of Eastern issues, UNDP Project Office in Poland, Mayor of the City of Lublin and Marshal of Lublin Voivodship created a think-tank called Eastern Competences Centre.

  

The aim of the Eastern Competences Centre will be:

1) to create a bridge between East and West, especially through the building of trust, transfer of ideas and support of democratic initiatives;

2) to support new directions in cooperation with partners from Eastern and Western Europe and Asia;

3) to run an information centre based on the competences classification principle which promotes valuable undertakings and international cooperation leaders;

4) to build a network of cooperation in terms of administration, culture, science and business;

5) to promote Lublin as the meeting spot for experts in Eastern development policy;

6) to support Lublin institutions in managing grant programmes addressed to the entities implementing transborder projects;

7) to support projects with tangible economic and social benefits to Lublin region.



The Centre's development activity will be carried out within the framework of 7 major programme areas:

1) civil society;
2) efficient administration management (good management);
3) culture for development;
4) science and education;
5) business relations;
6) social innovations;
7) sustainable development.


An Eastern Competences Centre Programme Committee has been established and comprises:

The activity of the Eastern Competences Centre will include:

1) promoting knowledge on international development cooperation;

2) providing information and support to people and institutions within the Centre's area of interest;

3) educating leaders of change;

4) elaborating positions, analyses and reports;

5) elaborating recommendations within the range of Centre's activity;

6) organising competitions;

7) Eastern Europe Initiatives Congress to be held at least every two years;

8) web page with information on the activities that are undertaken, recommendations and presentations of the best practises within the framework of main programme areas.
