The purpose of the “National, Ethnic and Language Minorities in the European Union” Conference is the analysis of the situation of the national, ethnic and language minorities in the EU member states. The Polish Presidency of the Council of the European Union is an excellent opportunity for the debate and will result in an increased popularity of the conference conclusions. The result of the conference will be a multi-dimensional diagnosis of the situation of the national, ethnic and language minorities in the 27 member states of the European Union.
The conference will consider various aspects of national, ethnic and language minorities life in the EU, with the focus on the following: different historical experiences of minorities in the member states, protection of minorities in the European legal tradition, evolution of national and language policies in the EU member states, participation of minorities in democratic political process, civic and political involvement of minorities, minorities and the evolution of contemporary European societies, migration within the EU, European multiculturalism and minorities, contemporary European media and minorities. During the conference, meetings of the Parliamentary Commission on National and Ethnic Minorities and the Joint Government and National and Ethnic Minorities Commission which will be open to public, will be organized.
Participants of the conference include scholars from various European countries as well as practitioners working in the field of national minority policies on both EU and national level, politicians, members of national, ethnic and linguistic minorities as well as the representatives of their organizations.
