Mr Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin, signed the agreement with Budimex on redeveloping Plac Litewski - Litewski Square. Initial works will commence in April. The works are to be finished by 30th April 2017.

The renovation of Litewski Square is one of the most important investments we have undertaken as it brings the heart of the city up to the standard we all would like to enjoy. Of course with regard to history and with close relation to the Monument of History, in this case, Old Town – says Mr Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

Works within the square will be carried out by Budimex company which won the tender to realise the investment. The company submitted the initial implementation schedule.

We want to carry out works in such a way which will be the least burdensome for residents. I want to assure you Mr Mayor and residents that we will welcome any suggestions and remarks to meet the needs of Lublin residents. The main works are to be finalised till the end of this year since it would be difficult to carry them out in winter. Afterwards, we intend to carry out finishing works, connected for example with the small architecture, which will end by 30th April 2017 – says Mr Radosław Górski, Construction Director in Budimex.

A part of Litewski Square, excluding places where the monuments stand, will be closed from 7th to 11th April to enable the celebration of the National Holiday of 3rd May. The whole square will be closed after 15th May. The renovation of Litewski Square provides an opportunity to embellish adjoining buildings belonging to Maria Curie-Skłodowska University.

It is hard to imagine the revitalisation of the square without the redevelopment of university premises. It is important to us to have a beautiful square. We will do everything we can to enhance appearance of our buildings and to make them look better on Lublin’s 700th anniversary – says prof. Stanisław Michałowski, Rector of UMCS.

Public space of 35 000 square metres within Litewski Square will be ordered as a part of modernisation. An interactive complex of water facilities will replace the fountain. Transforming of ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście, between ul. Kołątaja and ul. Kapucyńska, as well as ul. Plac Litewski into a representative, pedestrian precinct will be yet another novelty.
