The Authorities of the City intend to renovate the promenade in Lublin, which is to become yet another place undergoing renovation following the refurbishment of the Litewski Square and green areas by the Lublin Castle. The Authorities have presented the initial concept of renovation and welcomed the remarks of Lublin residents, entrepreneurs and users. It will create the possibility to discuss also the shape and the character of adjoining streets which may be transformed into functional woonerfs.

The promenade in Lublin, which is one of the most representative places in the city, was created 20 years ago as a result of transforming ul. Krakowskie Przedmieście into pedestrian precinct. The part for pedestrians will be extended to ul. 3-go Maja during the renovation works which are to be carried out on the Litewski Square in the next year. The technical and aesthetics condition of the promenade call for the new look of the place, which will fit new conditions and will satisfy changing needs of the residents.

We would like to implement comprehensive changes and enhance the quality of space in the City Centre. We want the promenade to remain the landmark of Lublin and to be in line with modern and functional Litewski Square as well as to provide residents with new possibilities to spend their leisure time – says Krzysztof Żuk, Mayor of the City of Lublin.

According to the guidelines established by the architect Jacek Ciepliński, who has drawn up the previous layout of the promenade too, the promenade is to serve the same function. However, it is going to be renewed and properly neatened. The initial project aims to move the street lamps to one side of pedestrian precinct and to leave elements of greenery and places to sit on the other one. The viewing axis will remain the same – says the architect.

Renovation plans to involve the replacement of lightening, road surface, underground installations, small architecture as well as arrangements of greenery. Łokietek Square is to remain a place where residents can spend their free time but will be equipped with portable elements of small architecture which will be useful during exhibitions, cultural events and markets.

The Authorities of the City want to initiate the discussion on the shape and the functionality of adjoining streets. According to the initial guidelines, they are to be transformed into functional woonerfs where walking and cycling traffic is put at the privileged position.

The Authorities of the City will wait for the remarks concerning the initial concept of the promenade and for the ideas relating to adjoining streets to 15th January. They can be sent to deptak@lublin.eu. The first open discussion with residents will take place in the Town Hall (room 2) on 11th January at 5 p.m. The architect will discuss the main guidelines of the renovation and its visualisations. The dates of the next meetings will be announced on an ongoing basis. The meeting with the restaurateurs who run their business by the promenade will take place at the beginning of January.
