Sport grants

For many years, the Municipality of Lublin has been supporting talented athletes who represent the Clubs operating in the City of Lublin. A sport grant is a monetary benefit awarded for a period of up to 12 months by administrative decision of the Mayor of Lublin.

Athletes who have won medals in the sports covered by the competition system and represent a Club based in the City of Lublin can apply for the award of a sport grant.

The grant is awarded to competitors with high achievements in individual sports and in team sports.

The basis for the calculation of the grant amount is a base amount determined in each case by order of the Mayor of Lublin. In addition, achievements are taken into account in different sports, which are divided into 3 groups:

Group I – The Municipality of Lublin provides special support to competitors who have won medals in the following priority sports listed in the “Strategy for the support of sport and recreation in Lublin to 2015” (Resolution No 496/XXII/2012 of the Lublin City Council of 28 June 2012:

  • men’s football,
  • men’s basketball,
  • women’s handball,
  • volleyball,
  • athletics,
  • swimming,
  • combat sports,
  • table tennis

The grant amount for a competitor with a high achievement in the priority sports is 150% of the base amount.

Group II – these are sports of particular importance to the City of Lublin and to the City’s sport structure, in which competitors have numerous achievements appreciated by the Lublin City Council having issued a resolution on sport achievement grants; they include:

  • karate kyokushin,
  • traditional karate,
  • kick – boxing,
  • motocross,
  • rugby,
  • taekwon-do ITF)

In addition, this category of sports takes into account achievements in sports included in the Olympic Games programme.

The grant amount for a competitor who has performed high in the priority disciplines is 100 % of the base amount.

Group III - this group of sports includes all other sports not listed in the previous groups. Then the sport grant amount for a competitor who has high achievements in other sports.

The final grant amount depends on the rank of the championship at which the competitor has demonstrated a high achievement, and his/her age category.

In 2015, sport grants were awarded to 78 competitors in the base amount specified in Order No 65/3/2015 of 25 March 2015 of the Mayor of Lublin on the determination of the base amount providing a basis for the calculation of the amount of grant for sport achievements in individual sports and team sports in 2015.

The grant was awarded for high achievements in the following categories:

For the period ending 30 November 2015 for competitors with an outstanding talent in individual sports, who are:

  • medallists or participants of Olympic Games;
  • medallists of Paralympic Games or Deaflympics;
  • medallists of World Championships for Juniors, Youth and Seniors;
  • medallists of European Championships for Juniors, Youth and Seniors;
  • medallists of the Universiade;
  • medallists of Championships of Poland for Seniors.


For the period ending 30 November 2015 for competitors with an outstanding talent in team sports, who are:

  • medallists or participants of Olympic Games;
  • medallists of Paralympic Games or Deaflympics;
  • medallists of World Championships for Juniors, Youth and Seniors;
  • medallists of European Championships for Juniors, Youth and Seniors;
  • medallists of the Universiade.

Sport grant applications should be submitted within the deadline specified by order of the Mayor of Lublin at the Department of Sport and Tourism of the Lublin City Office, 44 Filaretów St.

The following should be attached to the application:

  1. copy of the confirmation of a 2014 sport achievement, based on which the applicant will  seek the award of the sport grant, certified as a true copy by the respective Polish or regional sport association or sports club, of which the applicant is a member (if the applicant is a member of a sports club),
  2. the applicant’s commitment to represent with dignity the City of Lublin, and in the case of competitors belonging to sports clubs, also the respective club operating in the City of Lublin, and to inform the  Mayor of Lublin of circumstances providing grounds for the revocation of the grant,
  3. data for the tax return,
  4. statement for the purposes of social security and health insurance of the person receiving the sport grant, together with any appendices required.

In the case a sport grant is sought by an underage person, the application should be signed by a parent or legal guardian.

The rules for the award of sport achievement grants are set forth in Resolution No 363/XIII/2015 of the Lublin City Council of 23 December 2015 on sport achievement grants.

The deadline for submission of grant applications is set in each case by order of the Mayor of Lublin.
