The Greek Catholic Orthodox Church of St. Nicholas the Wonderworker was built in 1759 in the town of Uhrynów near Sokal as a parish church. In 1900, a new stone orthodox church was erected in Uhrynów. The old wooden church was purchased by the Greek Catholic parish in Ulhówek near Tomaszów Lubelski, intended for a branch church in the village of Tarnoszyn near Ulhówek. Translocation of the church took place in the years 1903-1904 and the solemn dedication of the transferred church – named as the Church of Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary - was made in 1906. Until 1947, the church in Tarnoszyn served the local Greek Catholics, and after their expatriation by communist authorities, it came under the rule of the Roman Catholic parish in Tarnoszyn. In the years 1947-1960 it served as the Latin parish church. In 1960, when a new brick church was built, the orthodox church in Tarnoszyn was abandoned and fell victim to numerous thefts and acts of vandalism. Twice it was set on fire but in both cases the fire was extinguished by local residents. For more than 30 years, the Tarnoszyn Orthodox Church was closed for worship and during that time got deprived of its interior furnishings. The outside part of building was damaged as well.

In 1994, the church was purchased by the Greek Catholic parish in Lublin and transferred to the Lublin Village Open Air Museum to be reconstructed and intended for worship and museum purposes. In the years 1997-1998 the architectural body was assembled.
