The Former Gallows

The Former Gallows
Address: ul. Długosza 4
Place: Lublin
Post code: 20-054

The mention of the first wooden gallows existing in this place comes from the beginning of the 15th century. It was not until the end of the 16th century that a brick gallows built on an octagon and covered with a wooden platform with railings, was erected. At the beginning of the 19th century, the building was covered with a roof and turned into a powder magazine. After the creation of Saski Garden, at the end of the 19th century, the powder magazine was converted into a gardener's house. The interior was divided into two floors and a brick one-story kitchen and a wooden vestibule were made. In the period of Polish People’s Republic, the subsitized flats were arranged in the former gallows. Nowadays, the works to adapt the building for residential purposes are underway.
