The building was erected between 1924-1928 according to the design of Polish Army Major, arch. Mieczysław Dobrzański. It was built from the bricks left after demolition of the Orthodox Church of the Elevation of the Holy Cross, which had been situated on Lithuanian Square. The opening ceremony of the Soldier's House, named after Marshal Józef Piłsudski, took place in 1933. The ceremony was combined with consecration of the garrison church. During the interwar period, the Soldier's House was one of the most functional military facilities in the city: it housed a casino, a gym and a cinema. During World War II, it served as the National Socialist House. The building was renovated in 1968. It housed the Central Soldier's House that was renamed into the Garrison Officers' Club. For a time it was the seat of the Musical Theatre. Nowadays, it is the seat of the garrison prosecutor's office, a military club and a library.
