Night of Culture 2017: Open Call for Projects

Night of Culture 2017: Open Call for Projects
01.03.201715:14

On the night of 3rd and 4th June, 2017 we will enjoy the Night of Culture for the eleventh time. This year you will have an opportunity to discover a new dimension of Lublin as the leitmotif of Nigh of Culture 2017 is City-Space-Time.  The Workshops of Culture in Lublin invite institutions, NGOs, companies and individuals to co-create this special edition of  Night of Culture.

For the past eleven years, we have been searching for the unknown. Sometimes we look for cities where the data are time and space, at other times, we look for sites, and sometimes we look for time. Night of Culture 2017 will be a very special embodiment of the Theory of Relativity altering the perception of time and space. The city will become the fifth dimension and thanks to that we will be able to observe previously unseen space-time curves and the phenomena that fall outside any previous theories.

We would like to see the proposals of events which will become a part of the city’s mechanics, its atmosphere, past as well as future. I encourage prospective applicants to treat the city as a living organism, one which needs some microelements for living and further development. Just think about the things you miss most on a daily basis and the answers will come. We would like to look at Lublin through the eyes of people who live, create and work here, says Joanna Wawiórka-Kamieniecka, Coordinator of the Night of Culture.

The open call for project proposals starts today. The deadline for submissions is 5 March 2017. You can submit your proposals using an online application form available  here.

Please get familiar with the criteria against which all submissions will be evaluated. Given the motto of this year’s Night of Culture, the focus is on city, time and space. We invite you to prepare projects for Lublin, with a particular emphasis on the city’s 700th anniversary. Creativity is another key word here. We encourage you to conceive of activities to be held in unusual areas and plan unconventional events. Attention will be given to premiere events dedicated specially to the Night of Culture, ones that take account of its nature and are designed for the first-time presentation during the event. It is worth thinking about the use of public space. Activities held outside the seat of the organizer, in the open space of the city, enjoy the greatest popularity among the participants in the event. Therefore, it is worth considering how to engage the public, interact with it and involve it in the activities.

All submissions will have been assessed by March 31, 2017. In early April the applicants will be notified by mail or phone about the decision of the Coordinator. The proposals will be assessed by the Night of Culture Team in cooperation with experts from various fields of culture. Just as in previous years, there will be additional competitions and calls for topic-specific tasks.
