General Assembly of the Association of Towns awarded the Europe Prize in Lublin

On June 1-3, 2018, representatives of 13 European cities visited Lublin to take part in the General Assembly of the Association of Towns awarded the Europe Prize.
Lublin was the host of the General Assembly as the laureate of the 2017 Europe Prize. The session was held on June 2 at the Polish Painting Gallery at the Lublin Castle. The theme of the Assembly, led by representatives ofCity of Kharkiv, the President of the Association this year, was direct democracy and civic initiatives as well as mechanisms for their implementation.

The agenda of the meeting also included study visits:
1. Districts of Culture - presentation of the Program, implementation of selected projects;
2. Cultural institutions: activities involving residents in the programming, cooperation with other entities (schools, non-governmental organizations) and visit in “Węglin” cultural centre;
3. Green Budget - presentation of selected projects by the Urban Green Architecture Office.

The meeting was accompanied by the Youth Forum.
Guests also had the opportunity to visit the monuments and attractions of Lublin, such as the St. Trinity Chapel at the Lublin Castle, Open Air Village Museum, or the State Museum at Majdanek and in the evening participated in the events of the Night of Culture.
The City of Lublin as the winner of the Europe Prize 2017 became a member of Association of Towns awarded the Europe Prize. Created by the Parliamentary Assembly in 1955, the Europe Prize is the highest distinction that can be bestowed on a European town for its actions in the European domain. The main purpose of the Association's activity is to promote European ideas in the field of: urban partnership, meetings of public and private institutions in the field of culture, European events, activities for European solidarity and good understanding between societies. The organization of the General Assembly of the Association in our city is a great honor for us and opens up new opportunities for promoting Lublin as an attractive partner of international cooperation.
