MAAT FESTIVAL presents the latest and important research in the field of movement and art which uses body language and related forms. The activities presented during the Festival oftentimes oppose the commonly used canons and therefore are inscribed into the continuation of world avant-garde.
The Festival aims at showing those phenomena and artists who have created their own original forms of expression and who have influenced local and international art. MAAT FESTIVAL focuses also on multiculturalism in art which divides and unite. This year, the Festival will focus on butoh dance - one of the youngest and most original and fascinating techniques. The audience will get a chance to see Japanese butoh masters as well as Polish dancers who transcend traditional idea of dance. This year's Festival is entitled "Ways of Moving the Body” will present dancers who have attempted to develop their personal original language of the body. MAAT FESTIVAL is an international festival. Famous Japanese artists, such as Daisuke Yoshimoto or Katsura Kan, have been invited to cooperate. Also Polish ones, like Anita Wach or Sylwia Hanff have contributed to the festival. The program of the festival includes meetings with butoh masters, Polish artists, lectures of critics, meetings with curators. The festival will take place from 25 through 27 of September 2009.
