Weekend in Lublin, December 20-22

What's on in Lublin for the weekend, December 20-22?

Centre for the Meeting of Cultures invites to the three last screenings of „Lighthouse”. Robert Eggers, the director of the horror film "The Witch", has returned with the tale of two lighthouse keepers working on a mysterious, remote island in New England in the 1890s. They slowly start losing their mental health and soon they are threatened by their own worst nightmares. Teatr Konfrontacje Teatralnych offers the screening of the film "Kraina miodu". The film shows the disappearing tradition of respect for bees and treating them as partners, rather than slaves producing honey. And on Saturday, a winter cinema for children within the Christmas Festival will start at the Centre for Culture. The programme includes 8 films for children. Afterwards, the film "Boże Ciało” (a Polish Oscar candidate) with audio description will be broadcast.

Próba Cafe offers “Współnuty” - a new series of acoustic concerts with Marcin Kruk who stands behind the idea of the event. He is also the guitarist, vocalist and songwriter. Anima String Quartet & Marcin Kruk will perform on December 20. Christmas concert with music by B. Britten and C. Saint-Saëns will be held at Lublin Philharmonic on Friday. At Hades Szeroka, though, Robert Kasprzycki will perform on the stage.

On Friday, the vernissage "O codzienności w sztuce" will take part in Galeria Labirynt-Plaza. The exhibition is designed to enable you to experience the contemporary art. Printon - the second edition of the international graphic exhibition - is taking place at the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures. The visitors are able to see posters and artistic graphics in new dimensions. An exhibition of photographs "O codzienności" by Aneta Winiarska is being held at Piękno Panie gallery. It is a record of ordinary life moments.

Babska Rebellion organises workshops on creating winter dream catchers. Originally created by American Indians, dream catchers today come in a variety of different sizes and styles. They usually consist of a small wooden hoop covered in a net or web of natural fibers, with meaningful sacred items like feathers and beads attached, hanging down from the bottom of the hoop. Real authentic, traditional dream catchers are handmade and crafted only from all natural materials, measuring just a few small inches across in size. The hoops are usually constructed of a bent Red Willow branch covered in stretched sinews. Wrapping the frame in leather is another common finishing touch for "real" dream catchers. The ambrotype is a positive photograph on glass made by a variant of the wet plate collodion process. Like a print on paper, it is viewed by reflected light. Each photo is a unique original that could only be duplicated by using a camera to copy it. The ambrotype was introduced in the 1850s. During the Saturday workshops you will be able to grasp it!

On December 21, “Dzień Kultury Białoruskiej” will be held at the Congress Centre of the University of Life Sciences in Lublin. The event has been a part of a large, international project "ART-PANORAMA" for many years in Belarus, Latvia, Sweden, the Czech Republic and other countries. The programme of the event includes the exhibition vernissage of children's artistic works “Kraj pod białymi skrzydłami" and the Concert Gala performed by young artists from various regions of Belarus. Nearly 400 young performers, vocalists and dancers will take part in the Gala. It has been implemented as part of a city cooperation between Lublin and Vitebsk in Belarus. As every week on Friday, a guide walk with the Via Jagiellonica Foundation is on schedule. This time we will discover Lublin from the Jagiellonian Union times. And in Chachmei Lublin Yeshiva a Hanukkah meeting will be held: lighting the first candle and a Hanukkah concert by Symcha Keller. Furthermore, "Meetings in the Yeshiva of the Magi of Lublin" a series of lectures on the history and culture of Polish Jews, will take part.

On Saturday, December 21, winter parkrun will commence.

For children

"Niesamowite przygody skarpetek" you will see on Friday at Chatka Żaka Academic Culture Centre. It is a spectacle aimed at children aged 5 to 13. The spectacle is an adaptation of the book "Niesamowite przygody skarpetek" by Justyna Bednarek. Edu Labyrint organises “free exercises”. Participants will play with textures and fragrances that stimulate the world of senses. The groceries are the products that people will work on. The second proposal of Edu Labirynt is Art Detectives. It is an offer for the youngest audience that combines creative art challenges with learning the basics of English language.

During the Friday Gong Puja, a deep healing music ceremony, we will play gongs all night (from 10:00 PM to 6:00 AM). We cannot forget about the weekly Lublin Fair, either. This time the Christmas edition and a Christmas market of talents and gifts the day after are planned. The next opportunity to get presents is KIERMASZunio!
