The idea of the festival

The festival "Ukraine in the Centre of Lublin 2018" is a cyclical event, which is being held for the eleventh year in a row. Thus, it became a regular guest in Lublin (Poland) which is a city friendly and open to the diverse cultures. The organizer of the festival is the Foundation for Spiritual Culture of the Borderland, where Ukrainian students, representatives of the Ukrainian minority in Poland, as well as Poles, who are interested in Ukrainian culture operate. Initially, the presentation of Ukrainian culture in Lublin was held in the framework of the festival “Mikołajki Folkowe” International Folk Festival (during the St. Nicholas' Day in Poland), which takes place every year in the city. Instead, from 2010, "Ukraine in the Centre of Lublin" is considered a self-made event.

The founders of the festival are students and graduate students from Ukraine who lived in Lublin for a certain time. This social group continues to form its organizational basis. Every year, more and more local places are involved in organizing festival events, this time it is the Culture Centre in Lublin, the Centre for the Meeting of Cultures, galleries, schools and clubs. During 10 years of existence, the participants of the festival's events became famous Ukrainian and Polish artists and groups, namely: "Odyn in kanoe", "Tik Tu", „Koralli", „Ludy dobri", „Ot Vinta”, „Zira", „Flyzza" „Joryj Kloc", Lesia Horowa, a shadow theater „Dyw", „Brio", „Baj", Jarosław Tomaszewski, „AtmaSfera", „Banda Arkan", „A Hutsul Calypso", a photographer Marian Strilciw, an artist Marta Wasilczyk, directors Wiktoria Trofimenko, Konstantyn Klatskyj, Oleksandr Fraze-Frazenko and many other outstanding figures.

During the festival there were contests of knowledge about Ukraine for pupils of Lublin schools, city games (quests) in places related to Ukraine in Lublin, as well as master classes on Ukrainian traditional crafts. XI Festival In 2018, on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the Independence of Poland, we want to organize a review of contemporary Ukrainian culture in various forms. In addition to the cyclical events during the festival this year, we will increase the number of activities that, at the turn of the century of independence of Poland, to show the multicultural colors of Lublin, as well as the largest Ukrainian minority in Ukraine. To do this, we strive to give even more interesting suggestions for the residents and guests of the city.
