June 2, 1719 – June 2, 2009

In one of the side chapels of the Dominican Church there is an unusual painting "Fire of Lublin." It depicts the city on fire and the procession of Dominican monks carrying the relics of the Holy Cross. This event took place on June 2 1719. There was a storm that caused a huge fire on the suburbs of Lublin. It seemed that nothing could help, but the Dominicans asked for God's help and started the procession towards the places on fire. Also rabbis in the Jewish district prayed. And the miracle happened - the fire was put out.

On June 2, 2009 we celebrate 290 anniversary of the event. We would like to invite you to reconstruct with us the atmosphere of that day and take part in the procession.

We meet at 8:30pm at the Dominican Church, and then go through the streets of the Old Town. The installation on Zamkowy Square reminds us where the fire started and where the damage was the most serious. A Guide will help the participants to feel the atmosphere of the 18th century city.
