experimental music at „Crossroads” Centre
Admission free
The Ukrainian duo of experimental music composers will soon present their work on Lublin’s music scene. The performance of Zavoloka (Katia Zavoloka) and Kotra (Dmytro Fedorenko) from Kiev is Crossroads Centre’s new offer of presenting experimental sounds in music. The artists are known to the Polish audience from last year’s "creative scholarships" project of Gaude Polonia. Zavaloka, Kotra and Denis Kolokol were guests of the Academy of Music in Kraków for six months.
The musicians performed in several different music projects in Ukraine and abroad. Their interests in experimental music are leaded by the possibility of creating very strange and unusual sounds. They seek for inspiration in the roots of music – traditional village instruments, vocal ensembles. Yet the most important thing, as they say, is “pure energy”.
Zavoloka
Kateryna Zavoloka is an experimental music composer and graphic designer from Kiev, Ukraine. Zavoloka's main interest is to present Ukrainian traditional culture through modern electronic art. Although Ukrainian traditional culture has a big influence on her work, she clearly cuts off from the style of "world music”. Zavoloka travels all over Ukraine recording traditional songs performed by village musicians of the older generation. She claims that her music is a natural expression of her personal freedom. Zavoloka is involved in numerous international cross-genre projects. She collaborates with artists from different parts of Europe. Along with massive sound experiments and regular festival appearances, Zavoloka takes care for all visual part of label Kvitnu , where all her latest works are released.
