Bruno Larek (1901 – 1936) was a Polish painter, illustrator, designer and poet. His artistic work has been rediscovered by chance in 2010. He studied mechanics and machine design at Warsaw University of Technology and painting at The School of Fine Arts in Warsaw. He left both faculties to travel to Berlin and Paris. It was there that he became aware of the ideas of Dada and Surrealism. He died in a fire in Warsaw at the age of 35.

The exhibition presents the remaining works of Bruno Larek. The author’s peculiar means of expression and absurdist sense of humour give them the spirit of Dadaism. In the context of the situation of Polish art of that time, Larek’s art appears to be an alternative to and a protest against his national culture.

This is the first exhibition of Bruno Larek’s works in Poland. The exhibition was also shown in The Polish Institute in Düsseldorf in March 2012.
