Scena Prapremier InVitro is again staging “Stones in His Pockets”, this time with a different cast as Mateusz Damięcki joins Bartek Kasprzykowski.

What can shake a small rural community in Ireland? The arrival of a Hollywood film crew, the death of a local teenager, an acquaintance with a film star, or the realisation that you are nobody? The Irish writer’s black comedy tells the tale of two worlds, one of which is filled with possibilities, glitter and insincerity, and the other is a small Irish village with its unfulfilled dreams, yearnings and truth.
Witty dialogues, a convincing representation of a film set and intense acting of the Damięcki-Kasprzykowski duo are the play’s assets. “Stones in His Pockets” is a story of how a film is made and how the rich and famous clash with the province and its inferiority complexes, but it is not just that. There are deeper reflections on friendship, freedom and the pursuit of dreams.

The production has been awarded Audience Grand Prix at the Kontrapunkt festival (2007), Angel of the Audience at the Spring Theatre Festival in Bielsko-Biała (2008) and a prize for acting at the Talia Polish Comedy Festival in Tarnów (2009). In 2011 a performance of the play was screened by the TV channel TVP Kultura.

The production is a display of the skill of the actors playing numerous theatrical instuments, conducted by the inspired maestro Łukasz Witt-Michałowski. At the same time it does not lose sight of the problems present in the play, preserving its message of the importance of believing in oneself, even - or, possibly, especially - in a world intoxicated with mass culture and with pap administered by the media.
