Lublin's Artistic Salon invites you all to a concert by Katy Carr & The Aviators:
Katy Carr is a British singer of Polish descent, a creative multi-instrumentalist, a film producer, and a staunch patriot. She performs onstage accompanied by The Aviators. Their jointly created music can be defined as a mixture of pop and folk sensibilities. Their tracks are subtle and soothing but can be also a bit quaint; at other times they can be surprisingly modern. So far Katy Carr has released four albums: "Screwing Lies" (2001), "Passion Play" (2002), "Coquette" (2009) and "Paszport" (2012).
Katy Carr is a recipient of numerous music awards, special mentions, and nominations. She performed at the Royal Opera House and her music was reviewed by among others The Guardian and the Independent. In November 2011, alongside Kate Bush, PJ Harvey, Arctic Monkeys and Ed Sheeran, she was shortlisted for the London Music Award 2012.
As a teenager, she dreamt of becoming a Royal Air Force pilot. On the strength of her passion for aviation, she passed required exams obtaining a RAF pilot's licence. Later on she became a fully qualified private pilot (PPL). However, it was then that her first love - music came to prominence and has stayed with her since.
Katy Carr sings both in English and in Polish; although she habitually laces her Polish with English interpolations, her command of the Polish language is impressive. No wonder - she is emotionally attached to Poland, the country of her mother's birth. Katy is not ashamed of her Slavic roots; on the contrary, she deems them a badge of honour, a responsibility and a duty to uphold.
Her recent creative output, immortalised on her "Paszport" album, thematically focuses on Poland and the Second World War. The genesis behind this leitmotif is the life story of Kazimierz Piechowski - a former prisoner incarcerated at Auschwitz-Birkenau - that Katy got to know purely by chance. Together with his fellow inmates, Piechowski stole SS uniforms and concentration camp commander's car, thereby managing to escape the atrocities of Auschwitz.
