Arhythmic Variations on Eight Spring Songs – composition by Jan Bernad and Jerzy Mazzoll - The Centre for Culture in Lublin, Courtyard

Arhythmic Variations on Eight Spring Songs – electro-acoustic composition by Jan Bernad and Jerzy Mazzoll drawing on traditional songs from the Podlasie region.

Performers: Traditional Folk Singing Ensemble of the Centre for Intercultural Creative Initiatives “Crossroads” in Lublin, conducted by Monika Mamińska, International Folk Music School Ensemble, conducted by Jan Bernad, and Mazzoll Trio - Sebastian Mac (guitar, electronics), Tomasz Sroczyński (violin, electronics), Jerzy Mazzoll (bass clarinet).

"Arhythmic Variations on Eight Spring Songs" is based on a series of folk songs traditionally sung during the spring solstice (mid-winter), which is also the time of tension between Eros and Thanatos. The piece, its structure, and the choice of folk songs are all supposed to give vent to these tensions as well as to conjure up the ambiance and acoustic effects that were generated when these songs were ritually performed outdoors. The presence of electro-acoustic music is of musical interventionist nature and its primary purpose is to amplify each of the songs and to create an audio narrative frame for the whole performance.

The concert is a tribute dedicated to the memory of Konrad Chyl who was supposed to be one of the performers as a member of Jerzy Mazzoll Trio.
