Tworki – postscriptum
Start date 2013-10-15
Start time 17:00

“Tworki – postscript” is a theatrical event, which started in the space between literature and unexpected life events, accidental encounters, and lucky coincidences. Almost all theatre projects are driven by a strict plan, but they are also affected by numerous unexpected factors. The first idea to make the performance “Tworki” appeared in 2005 when the author of the novel, Marek Bieńczyk met with the author of the adaptation. The main idea behind rewriting the novel in the language of theatre was the belief that the act of creation is the most interesting basis for a conversation between two artists representing different fields of art.

The event, which was created on the basis of Marek Bieńczyk’s novel, is neither a completed performance, a happening, nor a theatre rehearsal. It is rather a performed adaptation of a novel – a theatre script, and its subject – on the motif of utopia returning onstage. Marek Bieńczyk goes back in time to the 1940s into that part of history that took place between the Uprising in the Warsaw Ghetto and the Warsaw Uprising, mercifully throwing his protagonists into the “peace and quiet” of a mental institution. The wall surrounding the hospital doesn’t, however, stop the aggressions of war. They leap into the garden, and into the hearts and minds of the patients where they take their toll.

We contemplate the subject of war and young people confronted with history. Why do we have the constant need to look back? To what extent is it possible to find oneself in history?
