In 2014 we will celebrate the 125th birthday anniversary of Charles Spencer Chaplin. A genius of cinema, scriptwriter, actor and producer, he is remembered by millions as Charlie the Tramp, who – dressed in his distinctive outfit -- travels the world in quest for unattainable happiness.
“The Kid” was Chaplin’s first full-length film. It is considered a breakthrough in the history of silent cinema, as from that moment on both Chaplin and his rivals: Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, would start making full-length movies. It is a bitter-sweet comedy-drama, with apt social observations and farcical gags. Even though the story about the friendship between the Tramp and abandoned boy has a happy end, the film is streaked with an undertone of bitterness, which is characteristic of Chaplin's style.
