ASAD, directed by Bryan Buckley, South Africa/USA, running time: 18’

The film is set in a finishing village located in war-torn Somalia. A young Somali, growing up among refugees, is forced to choose between the cutthroat but lucrative world of piracy and a less profitable but more honest lifestyle of a fisherman. It is up to him to decide, to make an informed decision that will also be his rite of passage, his coming-of-age act.

BUZKASHI BOYS, directed by Sam French, Afghanistan/USA, running time: 28’
“Buzkashi Boys” is a story of two friends – a charismatic street urchin and a rebellious son of a smith. Both boys are struggling to make their dreams come true and while doing so they become young men, adults caught on the treadmill of warfare. Shot in Kabul, in cooperation with Afghan and international filmmakers, “Buzkashi Boys” shows life as it happens in, well, real life, life unfolding and continuing despite the ongoing war.
