The lecture will be conducted by Tadeusz Zienkiewicz, PhD – a former diplomat and a commercial attaché in the Federal Republic of Yugoslavia, then in Serbia and in Montenegro. At present, an academic lecturer. His five-year employment by the Polish Embassy enabled him to be immersed in the specificity of the local culture, get acquainted with customs and traditions as well as get to know the non-touristy life in the Balkans. During his stay, he not only became familiarized with Belgrad where he mostly worked but he also got to know the remaining countries of former Yugoslavia. In the course of his speech dr Zienkiewicz will sketch the present-day panorama of Croatia. He will locate, contextualize, and analyse her place both in the region and in Europe and focus on the perspectives offered Croatia as a result of its accession into the European Union.

The year is 1995. A military operation that is believed to put an end to all army activities in Croatia is about to be launched. Boro, the film’s protagonist, accompanied by his wife and children, is travelling to his home village in Herzegovina. It’s been seven years since his last visit there. Seven years is a long stretch of time. It’s high time he settled some long-abandoned matters for good – matters pertinent to the country’s history as well as crucial to the history of his own family.

Danko Babic is a physician, a renowned gynaecologist. Apart from medical expertise, he is characterized by sickening ambition and an obsessive craving for money. Babic is preoccupied with a dream of becoming the head of the clinic he is employed at. To make his dream come true, he will stop at nothing. He will also make it big. All thanks to a mixture of deception, treachery, and absolute disregard for work ethic. Not to mention frequent dealings with mafia, overuse of booze and drugs … Will he ever manage to mend his evil ways?
