FILM SCREENING: “The Godfather, part 1”
Coppola’s masterpiece (three Academy Awards and five Golden Globes) has made its indelible mark on the history of cinema. It is worth knowing it for a number of reasons. Undoubtedly, one of them is the outstanding role of Don Vito Corleone – the patriarch of the Italian-American gangster family, played to a T by Marlon Brando. The figure of the ageing don is of utmost importance to the onscreen narrative, composed by the director out of a set of intriguing ingredients. There are full-bodied well-rounded characters aplenty in “The Godfather” as well as aesthetically stunning photography of New York. Nino Rota’s score provides a cherry on top, adding yet another dimension to the movie that is Coppola’s informed homage to and take on post-war America;
