Replica of the 2013 Animator Festival
Kinoteatr Projekt invites all to participate in the Replica of the Animator Festival, which will begin with the Lublin screening of the critically acclaimed as well as other short-listed films by the judges of the 2013 Animator Festival. The Replica will continue during the first half of 2014 as a series of (almost) monthly screenings.
Programme:
1) ANIMATOR 2013 – summary of the Festival, running time: 4’29”
2) Head Over Heels, directed by Timothy Reckart, United Kingdom, 2012, running time: 10'18" – Audience Award
A husband and wife have become estranged over the course of their longtime marriage. He keeps a low profile and she keeps hitting the roof; they are neither here nor there as their relationship hangs by a thread.
3) Obida (The Wound), directed by Anna Budanova, Russia, 2013, running time: 9' – Special Mention due to masterly application of animation techniques
Grudge and resentment that a young girl bears manifest themselves as a hairy creature that becomes her special friend. As they grow up together the sheer size of the girl’s pent-up emotions starts to take over her life.
4) Paula, directed by Dominic Etienne Simard, Canada, 2011, running time: 10'29" – Special Award for Best Music
A portrait of a working-class community where young couple come face-to-face with the seedy side of urban life – with prostitution. As interactions ensue, unexpected changes in their respective lives start to take place.
5) Toto, directed by Zbigniew Czapla, Poland / Poland, 2013, running time: 12' – Third Prize /Brown Pegasus
A gripping story of a boy stealthily deceived by a cynical key collector. A universal tale of innocence and irrevocably lost childhood dreams.
6) Kaspar, directed by Diane Obomsawin, Canada, 2012, running time: 8'22" – Second Prize / Silver Pegasus
A poetic tale of a fascinating self-discovery and discovery of the world around us that is both beautiful and terrifying. Based on the life of Kaspar Hauser, a famous individual “orphaned by the twentieth-century” who has already inspired numerous artists.
7) Ab ovo, directed by Anita Kwiatkowska-Naqvi, Poland, 2012, running time: 5'18" - GRAND PRIX / Golden Pegasus
Imagine that your body is no longer yours. Somebody else starts to live inside it. A charming stop-motion plasticine animation about the process of becoming a mother.
