Lyrics: traditional and improvised by the singers

Stillness following a catastrophe. How does silence sound? What is it composed of?

Why does silence after a catastrophe resonate differently than any other shade of silence? What sounds build it? What dramas happen right between them? These questions have given rise (and voice) to my composition.

How does silence sound? What does it sound like? How do grief, sorrow, and dread sound? What has to happen after mourning so that one could go on living? These questions echo more than just music.

What is one supposed to do when faced with the overwhelming feeling of being solely responsible for the catastrophe, with the conviction that the catastrophe is a form of punishment? Is it enough to cleanse oneself to be able to sin anew?

“Gilgamesh”, the Babylonian epic, mentions deluge as a sanction meted out by the gods for excessive din and general noise produced by people. We are familiar with the story of the Biblical flood, with the legend of Atlantis, with the fable of the ur-Slavic city of Vineta, and with other analogous tales. In each of them, people were punished for their sonic excesses. At present, all points to the fact that in all our advancement we have been unable to learn our lesson through and through. Every day, with regard to various issues, we automatically drive away the thought of impending punishment – we delete from our memory the missing link between causes and effects, the link to the chain of causality.

Admittedly, noise and any other sound pollution that our habitats are affected by is not the only reason for reflection of this kind.
