In the 1990s Laurence told his girlfriend Fred that he would like to become a woman. Together, despite the staunch opposition of friends, they rise above all discord – suggestions of relatives and assorted phobias of members of society at large, whose values they do not condone. Together, as a couple, they set off on a decade-long journey during which they are at risk of losing not only themselves but their unique, inner identities as well. The journey onto the other side remains a big and unfathomable mystery even to them.
