The opening of a photography exhibition by Krzysztof Gierałtowski will be held on 26 June 2014. A leading representative of Polish contemporary photography, Gierałtowski is an insightful portrait photographer, who has been for over 30 years portraying Polish intellectuals and representatives of culture, science and politics. The exhibition contains 50 portraits that will be exhibited on the fence around the Saski Garden in Lublin. Held under the honorary patronage of the Mayor of Lublin, Mr. Krzysztof Żuk, the exhibition is organized as a part of the “Galeria na płocie” initiative and will be open until 17 August 2014.

”Galeria na płocie” (The Gallery on the Fence) is an initiative aimed at enriching the cultural offer of the city and encouraging city residents to take part in culture. It is run by the Stary Theatre activities, under artistic directorship of Leszek Mądzik. The initiative was launched in April 2014 with an exhibition of posters and photographs by the founder of the Scena Plastyczna KUL Theatre Company. In 2014 the Gallery will altogether host four exhibitions presenting the works of outstanding Polish visual art artists.

Krzysztof Gierałtowski is a photographer, member of the Polish Art Photographers Association (ZPAF) and Polish Society of Authors and Composers (ZAiKS) as well as a member-correspondent of the German Photographic Association (DGPh). He was the recipient of grants from the Polish and Dutch Ministries of Culture, Government of the French Republic, American Information Agency, Fondation pour une Entraide Intellectuelle Européenne as well as Polish Society of Authors and Composers (ZAiKS). In 2007 he was awarded the Gloria Artis silver medal by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage of the Republic of Poland. He is the winner of the 2011 K. C. Norwid Award and the 2013 Award from the Minister of Culture and National Heritage for visual arts. In 2014 Gierałtowski was awarded the Order of Polonia Restituta by the President of the Republic of Poland. His works are in the collections of MOMA, Museum of Modern Art w San Francisco, Bibliothèque Nationale de France, Polish Library in Paris, Hamburg’s Museum fϋr Kunst und Gewerbe, Photography Museum in Cracow, Art Museum in Łódź, National Museums in Warsaw, Wrocław and Poznań, as well as sublime private collections.
