Zimpel / Tokar / Szpura
This Polish-Ukrainian trio is a project commissioned by the Different Sounds Festival:
Wacław Zimpel – clarinettist, bass clarinettist; lauded as one of the most interesting musicians of the younger generation. Performs and records with the big wigs of contemporary jazz: Ken Vandermark and Peter Brotzmann. Leads a few bands of his own; recorded a few solo albums.
Mark Tokar – Ukrainian double bassist, one of the most critically acclaimed and widely recognised jazz musicians east of Poland. Recipient of the “Gaude Polonia” scholarship and a long-time artistic director of the Jazz Bez Festival. Performed alongside top jazz players and improvising musicians, including Ken Vandermark, Fred Frith, Dave Rempis, Mark Sanders.
Paweł Szpura – one of the most intriguing jazz drummers in Poland. Member of outstanding groups, including Hera and Cukunft. Regular collaborator of Mikołaj Trzaska, Wacław Zimpel, and Paweł Szamburski. Played with among others Hamid Drake.
