St Petersburg Ska Jazz Review

St Petersburg Ska Jazz Review is a legendary Petersburg-based group led by percussionist Denis Kupcov. Noted for the dynamite mixture of ska, jazz and other styles (funk, soul, r’n’b, rocksteady), the group consists of more than a dozen people generating unlimited energy while on-stage. Aesthetically timeless, the band does not slavishly follow latest trends but remains faithful to the sounds of the 1940s-1970s period when popularity was earned on the basis of talent and unprecedented skills and music was pure joy – both to the players and the listening public.
The Russian band pledges their allegiance to the music of Louis Jordan, James Brown and the J.B.’s, Sonny Rollins and the legendary Jamaican ensemble - the Skatalites. St Petersburg Ska Jazz Review plays reinterpretations of jazz, soul, funk and ska evergreens as well as their own original compositions. Characterised by a stunning brass section, they are virtuoso musicians who infect others with their enthusiasm.

After releasing their debut album, the band was joined by American singer Jennifer Davis. Together, they started work on their next record. Entitled „Too Good To Be True”, the LP was critically acclaimed making them quite popular in their homeland.

In 2010, after a few years of hiatus, the band returned to touring. In 2012 Jennifer Davis left the group and was replaced by a young Russian vocalist Margarita Kasayeva.

Currently, the band is busy working on their next record, which has been just announced with the release of their latest single called „Water Taxi”.
