One of the first and most important films containing elements of the gore genre. In the 1960s Romero revolutionized the standards of thrillers and horror movies. His film is cold, ascetic and evocative of a fictionalized documentary. Prior to the release of “Night of the Living Dead”, horror films were typified by a fairytale-like style while Romero introduced seriousness in the background of his cult horror: the film is thus haunted by racial conflicts that are the product of the 1960s reality, by the echo of the Vietnam War and diverse social tensions.
