Chinatown (1974), directed by Roman Polański

Benshi Film Discussion Club is a series of meetings of cinema-goers who enjoy the possibility of talking about movies. Free admission.

Benshi - film screenings

Benshi – this is a series of film screenings-cum-meetings tinged with a dose of the unexpected. If you are a serious cinema-goer, join us. How can one describe Benshi? Well, when the cinema took root in Japan, the government decided to appoint a special official – a story-teller and an interpreter of film narratives. As foreign films constituted a cultural barrier for Japanese audiences, a person working as Benshi helped them understand contextual intricacies and provided any additional information that was crucial to enjoying the cinematic experience.
