"Miracle on 34th Street" ("Cud na 34 ulicy"), the first December screening in the Miasto Movie series, focuses on the figure of the legendary director, filmmaker and actor - Richard Attenborough. This eminent cinema practitioner is perhaps best remembered fir his “Gandhi” and contribution to “Chaplin”. A prolific director, he frequently played seminal roles in cult films, such as the role of an eccentric millionaire in Steven Spielberg’s “Jurassic Park” or the English ambassador in Kenneth Branagh’s “Hamlet”. In “Miracle on 34th Street”, he palys Kriss Kringle, a loveable old man with a heart of gold employed in a giant supermarket as Santa Claus… Xmas is just round the corner while sellers ruthlessly compete to attract more clients and drain their wallets. Kriss makes a splendid Santa, becoming a favourite of both children and adults, which leads to hostility and jealousy on the part of rival supermarkets and malls...
This touching and universal fable-like story has remained at the top of Christmas film charts.
