The movie takes place in contemporary China. The film is an odyssey of a brave woman coming of age and finding her way in the rapidly changing world. Mei has never before left her village, yet despite that she is determined not to follow in her parents' footsteps and lead a similarly dreary and boring existence. Searching for new sensations and experiences, she reaches the New Chinese Metropolis of Chong-qing.
