On Tuesday at 6 pm, the Old Theatre invites you to the meeting ”Death Is a Woman” held as part of the “Battle for Literature” series. Krzysztof Varga will host Katarzyna Bonda and Gaja Grzegorzewska. Radio Lublin will broadcast extensive coverage of the meeting on 9 February, Monday, at 8 pm.
In Polish, the words ”crime” and ”death” have the feminine form, while ”murder” and ”homicide” are in the neuter. It may therefore seem that the masculine is much poorer in terms of crime fiction vocabulary. No wonder that these are female writers who begin to dominate the crime fiction boom that is going on in Poland; writers who do not shun brutality, violence or inventing characters with a variety of deviations. The meeting will feature two writers who do not use every trick in their books to win over the audience; writers who do not restrain themselves, who are ruthless and brutal. Why did they decide to write crime fiction that is so brutal that, when compared to the good old Agatha Christie, it is like a grannie’s cherry liqueur to moonshine?
