The film takes its viewers back to the Poland of the 1960s. Raised by nuns, Anna is an orphan about to take vows. However, just before she does so, she is asked by mother superior to visit his her aunt - her only living relative. The aunt tells Ida that she is Jewish and that her real name is Ida Lebenstein. Her parents did not survive the Holocaust. Desiring to get to know their past, both women embark on a journey of discovery.
