Concert: Tatvamasi & Ladies Quartet

A double bill that fuses two radically different sounds and musical angles. Two quartets that are only seemingly poles apart: chamber music-oriented string ensemble Ladies Quartet and revolutionary iconoclastic impro-electro-psychedelic Tatvamasi do not, however, automatically merge their music but rather creatively experiment live, making brand new music and travelling across uncharted territories.

Tatvamasi

On 8 October 2013, the legendary American label Cuneiform, which has worked with among others Robert Wyatt, Soft Machine, Wadada Leo Smith, Fred Frith and Rob Mazurek, released “Parts of The Entirety” – a debut album by Lublin-based Tatvamasi. The following month saw the next premiere, during which the quartet performed the compositions from their recent debut album for the first time in front of a live audience. As a band, Tatvamasi traverses vast musical territories, bringing back the acid-en- crusted taste of psychedelia and a non-linear jazz-inspired narrative that is grounded in the piercing tone of the tenor saxophone, the shrill sounds of the electric guitar that operates with the precision of a surgeon’s scalpel, and the interplay of the free-flowing, pulsating and precisely anchored rhythm section.

Complemented by a trumpeter, Tatvamasi has just recorded a brand new album, which will be released by Requiem Records in the autumn of 2015.

Musicians: Grzegorz Lesiak – guitar; Tomasz Piątek – tenor saxophone; Łukasz Downar – bass guitar; Krzysztof Redas – percussion; Maria Porzyc – multimedia.
