In its traditional sense, make-up is a layer of foundation applied to the skin to form a mask, a perfect coverage which hides, equalises, provides camouflage or creates a “smooth” and homogenous appearance. The exhibition captures the concept of make-up in a metaphorical way, referring to the hidden forces lurking deep under the surface and to all types of cracks in the geographical, cultural, social and political sense, but also the chasm between ideas such as: realism and fiction, religiousness and secularity, irony and tragedy, pleasure and pain, poeticality and politicality. The exhibition is presenting works by Israeli artists – videos, photos and installations.
The project is co-financed by the Embassy of Israel.
