Lublin is an unquestionable leader in Poland when it comes to the cooperation with partners from the East. The city undertakes a wide range of initiatives and projects for the development of civil society and city management, as well as projects concerning culture and science and undertakings aimed at the development of entrepreneurship.
In 2012 in Lublin, the City of Lublin, Marshal's Office of the Lubelskie Region and the agency of the United Nations Development Program in Poland created the Centre for Eastern Competences. This think-tank was established to facilitate the transfer of ideas and to support the creation of trust and democratic initiatives. The information centre, the unit conducted by the Centre for Eastern Competences, was created on the principle of competence qualification and aims to promote proper undertakings and leaders of international cooperation. It is worth mentioning that the network of cooperation in administration, culture, science and business was created. The development activity of the Centre is executed in 7 main programme areas: civil society, efficient administration management (good governance), culture for development, science and education, business relations, social innovations and sustainable development.
The creation of the Polish-Moldavian Economic Council is the continuation of the Centre for Eastern Competences and UNDP activities.
