In mid-November 2013, Ukrainians went out on the streets in quest of the way to freedom and decent life. The Independence Square became the witness to the sacrifice and an incentive for the Ukrainian nation to rise and fight for better future. The breakthroughs in Ukraine, known as Euromaidan, caught the attention of the whole world.

The opening day of “The way to freedom – Euromaidan Ukraine” exhibition took place on Sunday, March 30th , 2014, at 12 p.m. in front of the Lublin Town Hall at Plac Łokietka 1.
At the same time in the Ratusz Gallery, the exhibition of icons by participants of International Icon Painting Open Airs in the Volhynia region will be presented. The exhibition is made of works coming from 3 open airs: “The Polish and Ukrainian Saints” in 2011, “Wandering Saints” in 2012 and “Volhynia Saints” in 2013, in which artists from Poland and Ukraine took part. Open airs and the series of the post open air exhibitions are good examples of mutual understanding and long-term cooperation between Poland and Ukraine, the form of spiritual dialogue between artists who identify themselves both with Western and Eastern tradition of Church. What underlies the project is the need of Polish-Ukrainian exchange of ideas and experience in the form of common workshops of creating sacred art and icon painting. It is also the need of getting familiar with the religious context of Byzantine sacred art as well as with the cultural mingling of the West and the East influences.

Both exhibitions will be opened from March 30th to April 9th, 2014.
