Thereupon, the City of Lancaster was awarded the Union of Lublin medal. On May, 25 in Lancaster, the official ceremony was attended by Leszek Daniewski - Councillor of Lublin City Council and at the same time a beholder of this agreement from 30 years ago. On behalf of the City of Lancaster, the medal was received by Abi Mills - Mayor of the City.
During this meeting, Anna Barska, daughter of Bogdan Barski - the Founder and long-time Patron of the partnership - was awarded the Medal of Merit for the City of Lublin - for her many years of involvement in encouraging joint efforts between Lublin and Lancaster. At the meeting, gathered representatives presented and discussed a further concept of international cooperation between cities. Lublin delegation visited Polish Saturday School in Lancaster with over 180 undergraduates present there. The current number of our compatriots equals around 5,000 people. The school is supported by tuition fees paid by parents and all lessons are held in Polish. Lublin delegation was also joined by Jacek Szczypiorski - a former soldier living in Blackpool for over a dozen years and an expert on Polish history related to the Poles who fought for freedom in Great Britain.
The partnership agreement between Lublin and Lancaster was signed on May 11, 1994.
