From February 20th to 23rd, 2024, in Brussels, Belgium, the ‘European Conference on local youth work and democracy’ took place. Agnieszka Parol-Górna, Director of the Youth Policy Bureau, attended the conference. During one of the panel sessions, she had the opportunity to present Lublin’s achievements as the European Youth Capital 2023. She also presented the good practices of our city in areas such as youth work, activation, volunteering, and youth spaces.
According to the synergy of the strategic cooperation projects of national agencies ‘Europe Goes Local’ and ‘Democracy Reloading’, the topics focused on improving the quality of youth work and youth participation in public affairs at the local and municipal levels. The event was attended by over 300 participants. The result will contribute to the Council Resolution on ‘Youth Employment Policy in the New Europe’, presented by the Belgian presidency of the European Union. This resolution is to be discussed and might be accepted by the Council of Ministers in May 2024. Furthermore, the conference is a key link between the third European Youth Employment Convention (Bonn, 2020) and the upcoming fourth Convention in Malta in 2025. This year’s conference is crucial in shaping the Convention’s programme.
